Installing EdgeVis Client for Windows
Updated over a week ago

Introduction

The EdgeVis Client installer (in our Download Center) includes all of the following end-user client applications:

  • EdgeVis Client (for connecting to V7 and V8 EdgeVis Servers)

  • EdgeVis Local Viewer (for connecting to V7 and V8 encoders)

  • EdgeVis Media Manager (for playing back extracted recordings from a V7 or V8 encoder)

  • EdgeVis Shield Components (RDC Config)

We have also made the final version of EdgeVis Client v7 available for customers who must support older installations (see Legacy Download Center).

Upgrading from older versions

In order to upgrade any of the client applications the user only requires installing the latest version of the Client installer and all components are upgraded to the latest version at the same time.

Windows minimum system requirements

  • 64-bit Windows 10 (Build 1607 and above) or Windows 11

  • CPU: Intel i3/i5/i7 recommended (Note: ARM processors are not supported)

  • RAM: 8GB (16GB recommended)

  • Minimum 1280 x 800 screen resolution

  • Support for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1

Note: Windows 10 must be Anniversary Update (Build 1607) and above - NO support for Windows 8.1. We recommend running Windows Update before installing the EdgeVis Client.

Additional requirements for Local Viewer

  • 64-bit Windows 10 (build 1607 and above) or Windows 11 - NO support for Windows 8.1

  • STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: Intel CPU with Quick Sync Video support (see below)

As Local Viewer must decode up to FOUR H.264 video streams simultaneously it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to use an Intel CPU with Quick Sync Video support. To check the CPU in a PC, search for the model number in this list.

If the processor in the PC is not listed in the link above Local Viewer will use a software decoder which will use significantly more CPU. In these circumstances using a quad-core 3GHz+ processor is recommended.
