EdgeVis Server Quick Start Guide

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Introduction

EdgeVis Server is the heart of the EdgeVis infrastructure and is required for all installations.

Overview of the EdgeVis architecture

It is a software application that can installed on everything from a laptop for small single-digit encoder installations, to a clustered Linux environment in AWS (Amazon Web Services) to support thousands of encoders.

Getting your server infrastructure online

Step 1 - Size and plan your infrastructure

EdgeVis Server is a scalable application that can local installations for a small number of encoders and viewers, to a cloud-based infrastructure that can support thousands of users.

Review our server sizing guide to obtain system requirements - this will allow you to plan and obtain the necessary resources to install EdgeVis Server.

Step 2 - Install your server

EdgeVis Server is officially supported on Microsoft Windows, Ubuntu and Red Hat.

Native, virtual machine, and cloud-based installation is supported.

Step 3 - Configure your router and port-forwarding

If you are running EdgeVis Server inside your own infrastructure, you will probably need to expose EdgeVis Server to the internet.

Step 4 - Log onto your server

You should now log into your server using a web browser using the following address:

https://<your server's IP address>:9443/

The default username is Administrator

The default password is password (Linux) or as set during installation (Windows)

Step 5 - Authenticate your server with the licensing server

Your next step will depend on whether...

  • You are just utilising v8 hardware devices

    You can skip this step

  • You are also utilising v8 Android mobile encoders OR

  • You have purchased v9 SaaS EVVR Container licences

You must authenticate your server with the Central Licensing Server (CLS). If you already have access to a licensing pool, then authenticate your server, otherwise review the link below for more information on how to gain access to a licensing pool.

Step 6 - Customise your server (optional)

There are other features you can configure (e.g. e-mail integration or using your own SSL certificates) on your server.

Next Steps...

Now you have a working server you are now ready to start adding your encoders...
