EdgeVis Container v9.3 Preview

Understand what is included in this Tech Preview!

Why should you test this preview?

This version provides a flavour of the major features we're looking at for our next major release:

  • A preview of our new enhanced video codec.
Try out an early release of our next-generation video codec, which aims to double quality for half the bandwidth! The final release will use roughly double the CPU of the existing standard codec, but be aware this version provided today is currently unoptimized for performance, and we recommend performing tests on Auto at 300-500kbits - try this side-by-side with the existing codec, we think you'll be impressed!

How do I enable the new Enhanced video codec?

We've already got a version in the labs with half the CPU requirement - ultimately our final release will handle everything the current codec does, with much higher quality at lower bitrates!

  • First steps into next-generation analytics (including container support!)
As part of our long-term goal of making it easy to bring third-party analytics (including your own!) into EdgeVis, we've integrated a variety of new analytics we've created ourselves or downloaded from open source repositories.

To make it easier to test, we've also added support for analytics to containers! Just use the v9.3 client and configure your analytics as normal - you should find several new analytics to try.

While the final choice of analytics for v9.3 is still to be decided (and we'd love your feedback on this!), we will definitely be shipping the capability to use our standard analytics in containers in v9.3!

  • Image thumbnails are now available for EdgeVis alarm rules
If you use the analytics in this container, you will find that the encoder will send an image snapshot along with the alert.

Access to EdgeVis Server v9.3 Tech Preview

This container won't work on your production v9.2 server. You'll have to either:

For self-hosting... licences

We recommend testing with One-In-One-Out v9 licences to allow use of different output streams (for testing different video codecs or analytics).

  • If you've got spare One-In-One-Out v9 licences, you can use those. Once you've finished testing, you can free those up as you would normally.

  • Alternatively, a limited number of trial licences can be made available for a short period. You'll need to connect your server to our CLS account.

If you're using our cloud hosted EdgeVis Server, we'll take care of your licences.
