Generating a licensing report of connected encoders

Introduction

If you are attempting to build a list of encoders to help with the process for moving to v9, EdgeVis Server v9.2+ includes a CSV export tool that will export a list of all encoders on your server, their model number and serial numbers.

This can be helpful to build an overview of your estate, and with identifying information removed, sent to our licensing team to help with identifying v9 licensing requirements.

How to download the report

This tool is built into EdgeVis Server v9.2+, meaning users running older versions of EdgeVis Server will have to upgrade first.

v8.X user? How can I upgrade to v9.2 if I don't have my licence yet?

EdgeVis Server v9 has simplified licensing for v8 encoders by removing the previous licensing scheme and replacing it with an auto-generated EdgeVis Legacy licence that grants perpetual licences to all v8 devices without the need to contact our licensing team.

The only exception is for users with EdgeVis Mobile licences - we must free-issue you a licence to allow these encoders to connect to your server.

All v8 devices are currently fully supported on v9.2, and so it is now the recommended upgrade for all users.

Once upgraded to EdegVis Server v9.2...

  1. Log into EdgeVis Server

  2. From the home page, visit All settings -> Licensing server connection

  3. Select the Download detailed list button from the right menu. This will download a CSV file.

  4. Opening the resultant CSV file in Excel (or a similar editor) will provide you a list of your devices, similar to this:

The data format is:

  • ID - the internal unique ID of your encoder

  • Name - the encoder account name on your server. If sending this to Digital Barriers we recommend deleting this column for privacy reasons

  • Serial number - your encoder's serial number

  • Model - the modem of your encoder

  • Current Licence - this shows the current licence granted to your encoder. For the purposes of determining which encoders can be upgraded, you are looking for encoders that have:

    • Any EdgeVis Legacy licences.

    • Any EdgeVis Mobile licences - this will need a separate free-issue licence to enable mobile encoder for your estate.

  • Count - for EdgeVis Legacy licences, this is not useful, as this licence unlocks all the camera capabilities of your encoder - the high licence count of 16 allows the use of every possible camera on your device.

What to do next?

You should review the output and remove any dead entries. The list contains every encoder the server has an account for, so you may have duplicate entries for the same device.

As part of the process for upgrading to v9, you can then send this file to help our licensing team find and allocate the appropriate licences to your CLS estate.

If you are sending this file to us, we recommend deleting the Name column as this is your internal encoder names, which may contain identifying information.
