Milestone XProtect includes native integration with EdgeVis and can directly utilise EdgeVis encoders without the need for additional transcoding services.
Minimum requirements
Milestone releases are split into two:
XProtect core software application
Device Pack (which contains drivers for third-party devices - including ours)
You will need to ensure both are at a minimum level to get the best support for EdgeVis.
This article does not cover the licensing required to keep your versions up to date and you may find that you need to take a new software assurance subscription to update to the latest releases.
Milestone XProtect versions
Milestone has different licensing levels which offer different levels of capability.
Milestone XProtect Essential+, Express+, Professional+, Expert & Corporate are the current versions of Milestone XProtect. These are updated with multiple releases per year and the version numbers format is [Year] [Release Number in year] - for example, XProtect 2023 R2.
Digital Barriers recommends using the latest version, and can only provide support for any issues with compatibility on the latest release.
Milestone XProtect Professional and XProtect Enterprise are different products that are no longer developed by Milestone and have been discontinued. However, there is some support within these for EdgeVis when used with the correct device pack.
Digital Barriers does not recommend using these versions for new installations.
Milestone Device Pack versions
The device pack contains a driver to connect to EdgeVis Server and access your EdgeVis encoders.
Digital Barriers recommends using the latest version, and can only provide support for any issues with compatibility on the latest release.
However, customers who do not have the necessary licensing arrangements may use older versions of the device pack (without support) but should be aware of these significant version numbers as minimums for specific functionality:

Device Pack 10.9 | This version introduced the ability to use the analytics metadata for drawing detected object bounding boxes on-screen. |
Device pack 12.4a | This version introduced the ability to use the Enhanced V8 EdgeVis video codec. |
