Introduction
VMS Gateway relies on access to an EdgeVis Server installation that has been configured with EdgeVis encoders connected to cameras - these provide the video and analytics events to your VMS.
The first time you log into VMS Gateway, you'll be asked to configure your EdgeVis Server connection.
You should enter the Server address for the EdgeVis Server and the Username and Password for an account that has access to EdgeVis Server and the appropriate permissions on the encoders you want to stream.
Is your EdgeVis Server's web interface behind a CDN/WAF?
Some organisations, when deploying EdgeVis Server, will place the server's web interface behind a CDN or WAF to provide an additional level of security.
However, this will often make users of the EdgeVis Server web management interface use a new domain name/ip address that is different from the address your EdgeVis Server is using for its video ports.
Under the Advanced settings section, you can now enter a second address (which should be the same as the address that you use in EdgeVis Client to connect to your server). This then provides VMS Gateway with both addresses needed to successfully connect to your EdgeVis Server.
The EdgeVis Server and account details you've entered will be verified when you click on the Verify button.
Assuming the details you provided were ok, you'll then be presented with a list of machines within your VMS Gateway cluster:
In this example VMS Gateway has been installed onto two machines - if you have only installed VMS Gateway onto one machine, only one machine will be listed.
Setting up your EdgeVis encoders to appear in your VMS
The general steps to use VMS Gateway are:
Create a virtual ONVIF device on your machine
Add your desired EdgeVis encoders to your virtual ONVIF device
Go to your VMS and search for ONVIF devices on your network. Your VMS should find your virtual ONVIF devices.
Add the desired virtual ONVIF device to your VMS, and select the desired output stream.
Virtual ONVIF devices are what your VMS will see on the network - they effectively pretend to be ONVIF compatible IP cameras on your network. Each virtual ONVIF device will have multiple output streams - each of which will correspond to an EdgeVis encoder.
The above steps would be repeated until you've:
added all your EdgeVis encoders to VMS Gateway,
then added all of your output streams to your VMS.
