There may be occasions where you need to downgrade the firmware on your encoder (e.g. as requested by support to help diagnose an issue).
We do not generally recommend downgrading your encoder in normal operation as there may be unintended consequences including:
Loss of functionality introduced in the new release.
Changes in configuration between releases that causes settings to be lost, potentially stopping your encoder from reconnecting to the server.
Downgrading an encoder remotely over the air introduces a risk that you may lose access to that encoder.
Downgrade constraints
There are also some constraints over downgrading certain firmware versions. On encoders running version 8.5 or above it is impossible to downgrade to an earlier version (e.g. version 8.3.1)
How do I get an older firmware?
It is our policy to only publicly publish the latest firmware. If you require an older firmware please contact support who will assist and check that your downgrade is possible.
How do I downgrade an encoder?
It is the same process as upgrading a firmware.
After downgrading your encoder we STRONGLY recommend that you factory reset your encoder, to avoid any potential configuration issues (as described above).
Why does my downgrade keep failing?
It is likely being rejected by the encoder. There are several reasons why this can happen:
A corrupt firmware file.
The firmware isn't compatible with your product.
There is a downgrade constraint that blocks the downgrade.
