Updated over a week ago

VideoVault upgrade steps

The current release of VideoVault is version 10.0.10. These instructions refer to this version of VideoVault. If you are using a different version then the following rules apply:

  • If you are running an older version then v10.0.10, then you must upgrade to version 10.0.10 (available on request) before proceeding with the steps in this document.

  • If you are running a newer version than 10.0.10, then the steps in this document should still work but may not be tested with the specific version you have. Contact Digital Barriers for advice on this.

An overview of the upgrade steps:

  1. Request a new licence for VideoVault from Digital Barriers

  2. Import received licence into existing VideoVault v10.0.10 installation.

  3. Upgrade from VideoVault v10.0.10 to v10.1.7

  4. Upgrade from VideoVault v10.1.7 to v14

Prerequisite files

The installers required for the upgrade are available from the EdgeVis support site using the links below.

Licence request

A licence is required for VideoVault version 14. This must be requested from Digital Barriers.

The steps to obtain a licence are as follows:

  1. Send a licence request to Digital Barriers at licences@digitalbarriers.com. The request should state:

    1. The request is for a VideoVault licence.

    2. The number of cameras that will connect to the VideoVault system. The licence will only allow this number of cameras.

    3. The original purchase order reference number for the cameras.

    4. Any additional details for the licence, such as the date that the licence should be activated.

  2. Digital Barriers will generate the licence file and send it to you by email response. The licence will also include a password to unlock it.

Uploading the licence to VideoVault

When a new licence file has been received from Digital Barriers, it must be uploaded into your VideoVault system:

  1. Log in to VideoVault as an administrator user.

  2. Go to the Admin Tab, then to the System settings from the menu on the left.

  3. Select Licences from the system options.

  4. Press the Import Licence button:

  5. Upload the licence file received from Digital Barriers to the server. A screen will be displayed showing details of the licence and the number of cameras. Check this matches with the request that was made.

  6. You will be prompted to enter the password to unlock the licence. This is the password that was received from Digital Barriers along with the licence file. If the password has been entered correctly then the licence will be activated.

  7. Delete any expired licences from the system by pressing the Delete Licence button:

Before upgrading

Take a backup of the VideoVault database:

  • From the PC on which VideoVault is installed, launch the VideoVault Administrator application (not the VideoVault web interface).

  • Log in to the server, then go to the Advanced menu and select Export the database. You will be prompted to save the database file to a location on disk. It is recommended to save the backup file to a different disk location, or save it to a different PC.

  • Close VideoVault Administrator. Backup is complete.

If upgrading fails and you need to restore from a backup, then contact Digital Barriers for support.
