BW600 overview
Setup
The steps to set up a new BW600 body worn camera are:
Insert a SIM card (if required).
Connect the BW600 to a docking station. This will charge the camera and allow it to connect to the VideoVault system.
Complete the setup within the VideoVault system, including applying software updates.
Docking and charging the BW600
To dock the BW600 with the Docking Station:
The camera should be powered on to allow it to connect to VideoVault.
Select an empty tray in the docking station and align the 4 pads on the bottom of the camera with the 4 pins in the docking station tray.
Place the camera into the tray. Do not force the camera into the tray. The camera should fit into the tray easily. The camera will only fit in the tray in the correct orientation.
Once the camera is correctly located in the docking station tray, press down on the top of the camera until it clicks into place. The camera should now be held securely.
A red charging light will be shown on the camera and a green light indicates that the camera has successfully connected to VideoVault.
To remove a BW600 from the docking station, hold the camera on both sides and lift it upwards. The camera is held firmly in place by a retaining clip, so a small amount of force is required.
Software updates
Software updates must be applied to the BW600 before using it for the first time. To update a BW600, follow the software update instructions in the VideoVault Setup Guide.
Digital Barriers may occasionally release new software updates for the BW600. These may include new features, improvements, and security updates. New software updates can be obtained by contacting your Digital Barriers account manager. The software update package can be imported into VideoVault and applied either automatically or manually to all docked cameras.
Battery replacement
The battery in the BW600 is replaceable. The battery is rated for 500 charge-discharge cycles (approximately 1.5 years of continuous use). For optimal battery health and lifespan, follow the BW600 charging guidance information enclosed with the camera and available from the Digital Barriers support site.
Power off the BW600.
Turn the camera so the LCD screen is facing upwards.
Remove the 8 rubber bungs covering the screw holes (tweezers or a SIM card removal pin work well).
Unscrew the 8 screws using a T5 Torx screwdriver. Take care while doing so to ensure screws are not lost if they fall out.
Once all screws have been loosened carefully pull on the front case panel to remove it. The panel is tightly fitted. The recommendation is to work around the sides then the corners of the front case to release it. Once released the front case panel can be set aside. If the case panel does not come off easily then check that there are no screws still holding the front panel in place. The front case panel can be broken if force is applied while screws are still holding it in place.
The battery compartment will be visible beneath the front case panel. The battery can be removed by lifting it from each side.
When fitting a new battery check that the battery terminals are clean and do not have any protective covering in place. Align the battery terminals with the terminals in the BW600 battery compartment and lightly push down on the battery until it slots into place.
To replace the front case panel, first check that the rubber seal around the inner side of the front panel is intact and held in place. Align the front case panel with the BW600 and carefully press down on each corner until a click is heard.
Replace and tighten all 8 screws. Do not overtighten the screws. Screws should be hand tight (maximum torque 5nm).
Replace the 8 rubber bungs in the screw holes.
Inserting a SIM card
The BW600 requires a nano-SIM card. The SIM card slot is situated underneath the battery. The front case panel and the battery must be removed to access the SIM card.
Follow the instructions in the Battery Replacement section to remove the battery.
The SIM card slot has a locking tray. Slide the tray to the right to unlock. The tray can then be flipped upwards from the left side with the hinge on the right.
Insert a nano-SIM card into the SIM slot. Check that the notch on the SIM card aligns with the notch on the bottom left of the slot.
Make sure that the SIM card fits within the slot then close the tray. Lock the tray by sliding it to the left. Do not force the tray. If it does not slide easily then open the tray again and check that the SIM card is sitting correctly.
Once the tray has been closed and locked, continue the instructions in the Battery Replacement section to reinstall the battery and the front case panel.
Mounting the camera
The BW600 is supplied with two mounting options:
Attaching the crocodile Clip
Turn the camera so the LCD screen is facing upwards. The U-shaped mount is above the LCD screen.
Align the metal clip of the crocodile clip with the camera mount, then slide the clip downwards until it clicks into place. The centre of the clip should engage with the notch on the back of the BW600.
Check that the clip is securely mounted on the camera before attaching it to any clothing.
Attaching the Klick Fast Adapter
Insert part A into U-shaped mount on camera.
Place part B on top of part A (as pictured).
Place part C on top of part B. Make sure orientation is correct (as pictured).
Insert screw and hand tighten with screwdriver. Do not overtighten. Do not use power tools.
BW600 LED light sequences
The following LED light sequences apply when the camera is docked. The LED light sequences used when the camera is assigned and operational are configured from the VideoVault device profile. Please refer to the VideoVault User Guide for more information on configuring the device profiles.
Camera settings
The camera settings are configured using a Device Profile in VideoVault. If the default device profile is used, then the BW600 button functions will be as shown in the image below. For more information on customising the camera settings using the Device Profile, refer to the VideoVault Setup Guide.

When the camera is operational it will display the camera view along with an overlay showing status information. The screen will switch off when not in use. Tap the power button one to wake the screen.
Battery charging guidance
This section outlines guidance for charging BW600 batteries and correct operation to maximise battery life.
USAGE OF THE EQUIPMENT OUTSIDE OF THE GUIDELINES MAY RESULT IN SHORTENED BATTERY LIFE, OR BATTERY FAILURE.
A FAILING BATTERY CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY ITS FAILURE TO HOLD CHARGE, OR BY SIGNS OF SWELLING - THIS CAN BE SEEN BY CLOSELY EXAMINING THE CAMERA CASE WITHOUT HAVING TO OPEN IT.
IN EITHER SCENARIO, REMOVE THE BATTERY FROM THE DEVICE AND CONTACT SUPPORT. DO NOT USE OR CHARGE THE DEVICE.
Battery lifespan
BW600 rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries have a rated lifespan of 300 full charge and discharge cycles. With age, batteries will gradually lose their capacity to hold a charge. This loss of capacity (aging) is irreversible. As the battery loses capacity, the length of time it will power your device (run time) decreases. Additionally, lithium-ion batteries continue to slowly discharge (self-discharge) when not in use or while in storage. It is advised that you routinely check the battery’s charge status. The device should be recharged regularly to maintain the internal chemistry of the battery.
Charging guidance
DO charge the battery in an environment that is between 10°C and 25°C. Charging above or below this temperature range may harm the performance of the battery or reduce the battery’s life expectancy.
DO recharge a depleted battery as soon as reasonably possible. If the camera is operated until it shuts down due to low battery, it should ideally be recharged within a day.
DO remove the camera from the charger if it remains unused for more than 1 week. If the BW600 remains unused for a long period of time, it should be left off the charger and its charge should be topped up every 3 months by charging for 1 hour.
DO replace the battery only with a replacement supplied by Digital Barriers or an approved reseller.
DO dispose of used batteries according to local law and regulations applicable to Li-Ion batteries.
DO apply camera updates to the latest firmware revision regularly. This will ensure it has the latest available battery-protection features. Information on new firmware releases can be obtained from Digital Barriers.
DO NOT expose the battery to temperatures above 60°C or below -10°C.
DO NOT leave the camera in direct sunlight, especially behind glass in a car or a similar environment where temperature is uncontrolled.
DO NOT attempt to charge the BW600 while the camera is operational. An operational camera is defined as a camera that is recording and/or live streaming.
DO NOT leave the camera docked and charging for longer than 1 week. If the camera is expected to be unused for more than 1 week, it should be removed from the charger and kept in the following state:
Powered off
Medium amount of charge
In a temperate environment, ideally at around 20°C.

All wireless data transferring devices produce interference that may affect other devices which are placed nearby. |
SAR
The BW600 device is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed not to exceed limits for exposure to radio waves recommended by international guidelines. These guidelines were developed by the independent scientific organisation ICNIRP and include safety margins designed to assure the protection of all persons, regardless of age and health.
The guidelines use a unit of measure known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit for mobile devices is 2 W/kg. The highest SAR value for this device when tested complied with this limit.
The SAR figures for body worn operation have been verified for operation with a 5mm separation distance from BW600 to the body.
Limiting exposure to radio frequency (RF) fields
For individuals concerned about limiting their exposure to RF fields, the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the following advice:
Precautionary measures: Present scientific information does not indicate the need for any special precautions for the use of mobile phones. If individuals are concerned, they might choose to limit their own RF exposure by limiting the duration of cellular operation.
Further information on this subject can be obtained from the WHO home page http://www.who.int/peh-emf WHO Fact sheet 193: June 2000.
Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum separation of 15 cm be maintained between body worn devices and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker. To achieve this the BW600 must not be carried on the chest.
Hearing Aids
People with hearing aids or other cochlear implants may experience interfering noises when using wireless devices or when one is nearby.
The level of interference will depend on the type of hearing device and the distance from the interference source, increasing the separation between them may reduce the interference. You may also consult your hearing aid manufacturer to discuss alternatives.
