How to logon and use the licensing portal

Updated this week

Introduction

Licence management in EdgeVis is performed in the portal for the Central Licensing Service (CLS). To access the portal, please visit https://licensing.digitalbarriers.com/.

When you log in, you will be presented with a list of pools attached to your account:

This will list your licence pool name (usually your company name), the number of camera licences in use/available, the expiry date of your pool and your current status (Active, Expired, or On Hold).

Managing your pool

Click the Manage button to take you to the pool management page, and see the full details of how your licences are allocated:

This will list all of the servers you have authenticated with your licensing pool. For each server, it will also show:

  • The name you gave your server during the authentication process.

  • The last date that your server checked in with CLS.

  • The number of licences available and the number in use.

This list may be empty if you haven't added any servers yet.

Registering a server with CLS

If you have installed a new EdgeVis Server, or have upgraded from an earlier version, you may need to authenticate your server against CLS to allow access to your v9 licences.

On the pool management page, click the Actions ... button, and select Add new server. This will ask you to provide a name for your server. This name is only shown in CLS and will not be visible to EdgeVis Server users:

After entering a name, you will be presented an authentication code:

Screenshot of verification code

You must enter this code within 24 hours into EdgeVis Server (so it can be created in advance of server installation). If you have:

  • Installed a fresh server you will enter this code during the installation wizard.

  • Upgraded a v8 server you can enter this code (as a System Administrator) by logging into EdgeVis Server -> select All server settings -> Licensing server connection -> Change licensing authentication code and entering the new code:

Managing an individual server

If you are on the pool management page, you can click the arrow button on an individual server to be taken to a page that allows you to manage your server, and see a list of all encoders that are currently using a licence (except EdgeVis Legacy licences).

Each encoder name listed ties up with the name of the encoder account used in EdgeVis Server. Each entry shows how many licences are being used, and the last time the encoder checked in - this can be useful to determine 'dead' encoders that are unnecessarily using licences.

This pages offers a number of functions:

Kick server - remove your server from CLS

This will remove your server from your licensing pool. Other than EdgeVis Legacy licences all of your encoders listed on the page will lose their licence within 24 hours of kicking your server.

Edit name - change your server's name

This will allow you to rename the server in your pool. This name is only visible within CLS, and has no operational impact if changed.

Remove encoder - free up licences

Using the trash icon button next to an encoder will remove the encoder temporarily from the list of all licensed encoders and free up the licences back into your licence pool.

To make this permanent, you must also turn off your encoder OR remove the corresponding encoder account within EdgeVis Server. This is because your encoder will check in daily and automatically renew any licences it needs to remain operational.
