What is a licence pool?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

A licence pool is where your licences are held. It is stored in our central licensing service (CLS).

A licence pool holds the following information:

  • An expiry date - all of the licences in your pool have the same end date.

  • The number of individual licences you hold. Currently, in v9.1 you can have the following types of licences:

    • EdgeVis Container licences - this is the number of cameras you are entitled to connect to an EdgeVis container

  • Whether you have been granted the ability to use v8 EdgeVis Mobile encoders on your v9 server (the default value is no - as this is only granted to customers who have previously purchased mobile encoder licences).

EdgeVis Legacy licences (for v8 encoders) are unlimited and issued directly by EdgeVis Server. These are not stored by CLS in your licence pool - you will always be able to use EdgeVis Server v9 to connect your v8 hardware encoders (and mobile encoders for appropriate customers as discussed above).
