How do I request a v9 licence estate?

Introduction

Your EdgeVis Server v9 connects to the Digital Barriers Central Licensing Service (CLS) so that it can fulfil requests for licences for your devices. Your licences will live in an Estate, and from there, you can have one or more licensing Pools. You then authenticate your server against the appropriate licensing pool, so that you can use the services and devices you are entitled to use.

You only have to ask for a licence estate once, and then attach multiple servers to a pool within your estate.

Digital Barriers can/will create a licensing pool for you - the process differs depending on your circumstances:

I want to upgrade my hardware encoders from v8 to v9

The upgrade from v8 to v9 for hardware encoders is more complex than normal firmware upgrades. CLS must be programmed with the correct licences before you upgrade your encoders; otherwise, your encoders will cease to operate.

We will work with you to determine which licences you are currently entitled to, and which devices you can upgrade.

I have purchased new v9 EdgeVis Container licences or Hardware encoders

Your licence estate will be created for you as part of the order process, and you will receive instructions on its use as part of fulfilling the purchase order.

You can then use this pool for as many servers as you like, including those that only contain v8 encoders.

I'm staying with v8 encoders for now

EdgeVis Server v9 does not require a connection to CLS if you are only using v8 hardware (excluding mobile encoders). You can, however, connect your server to CLS in preparation for future upgrades or if you need to support Android mobile encoders.

Remember, you only need one licence estate - you can reuse this on as many servers as required, and can invite other team members to use the same estate.

Our licensing team will return with instructions on how to start with your licensing pool estate. If we are unable to locate your previous order in our records, we may respond with a request for further information (so please supply as much information as you can, e.g. your DB sales representative).
