Device Identification and Licensing
At the most basic level, we identify devices in our system using the serial number they report when requesting a licence.
Hardware Encoding Devices:
These devices are assigned a serial number during provisioning, before being delivered to the customer.
Container Encoders:
Each time a container instance is created, it is assigned a unique serial number, which we use to identify it during licence requests.
How Licence Requests Work
When a licence request is made, your encoder asks for the number of camera licences it needs from your available pool.
A licence request is triggered in the following situations:
When an encoder connects to the server for the first time
Periodically while active (typically once per day)
Whenever a camera is added/removed from the encoder
Once the request is approved, the specified number of camera licences is linked to the serial number provided by the encoder.
