Prerequisites
Your encoder can upgrade the firmware on any modem as long as you meet the following requirements:
Your encoder is running version 8.7.2 or above
Your encoder contains a Sierra Wireless modem (or one is attached via USB)
The modem model is one of the following:
MC7430
MC7455
EM7411/MC7411
EM7421/MC7421
EM7431/MC7431
To determine your modem's manufacturer and model, log into your encoder's local web interface, and select your modem from the Communications page. Scroll to the Modem Information section:
If your model does not match one from the list above, then you can not use your encoder to update it's modem firmware.
Step 1. Retrieve your firmware and PRI version numbers
From the same Modem Information section, you will find two values listed:
Your modem's firmware version (e.g. 01.14.22.00)
Your modem's PRI file version (e.g. GENERIC_002.057_000)
What is a PRI?
A PRI (Product Requirements Information) file is a carrier-specific configuration file that contains important settings and information related to the named cellular network.
For most European users, there is a generic PRI file. However, some networks (mostly North America or Asian) have a file tailored to their network.
Step 2. Visit your modem's official firmware download page:
You must visit the Sierra Wireless firmware download page that is appropriate for your modem:
Find the table that relates to your modem:
β
The first column lists any specific network PRIs that are available - you should check if there is one that matches your desired network. If not, you should look for the Generic entries.
β
Your current PRI network is listed at the start of your PRI version number.
βYou can then check the version number in the Firmware column (all digits after the SWI9XXXX_ part) against the firmware version of your modem.
If there is a more up-to-date firmware available, or you wish to switch PRI to a different network then click on the appropriate link in the Firmware Files column. This should download a ZIP file to your PC.
Be careful... don't let your browser/PC unzip the file
You will upload the ZIP file to your encoder, so make sure you have the original ZIP file available and your computer hasn't unzipped the file for you!
You are now ready to install your new modem firmware!
