Introduction
The Object Detector (OD) is used to detect and identify people, cars and trucks in encoder video streams. It runs on the EdgeVis encoder and offers additional capabilities compared to SafeZone 2D (SZ-2D).
It enables several use cases:
Object Detector operates the same way as Safezone 2D within EdgeVis and can be used as a trigger within the EdgeVis Central Alarm Management System. This allows users who predominantly work within the EdgeVis software applications to send alarms or perform encoder actions when an object is detected.
VMS Gateway will receive and interpret Object Detector metadata/alarms and convert it to an ONVIF M data stream that your VMS can understand.
Object Detector is available on:
EdgeVis Video Router 1/1R/1RL
EdgeVis Video Router 4/4RL
EdgeVis HD-IP200
EdgeVis MiniCam
Enabling and configuring Object Detector
All the configuration of OD is done on the EdgeVis Client for Windows by a user with the appropriate administration permissions on the video streams coming from an EdgeVis encoder, as configured in EdgeVis Server.
To enable OD you need to:
Ensure that you have enough licenses
Enable analytics on the encoder
Choose Object Detector as an option on the encoder
Customise the Object Detector to your deployment scenario.
Apply the settings.
For further information please refer to the reference documentation or continue reading for a quick overview showing how to configure OD for an encoder.
Choosing Object Detector as an option for an encoder
Open the encoder video stream in EdgeVis Client for Windows, and change to the desired camera.
Select the video stream and then select Settings -> Change Analytics.
Turn the Enable for <camera> toggle on and select the Object Detector option.
To configure the Object Detector, click the CONFIGURE button. The Options popup subsequently displayed lets you set:
The Sensitivity level - which determines how many objects are detected, increasing the level will detect more objects but may result in false positives. In our example we change this from Medium to High.
The Minimum presence in zone - which determines, in seconds, how long the object is in the monitoring zone before it is detected as an object. In our example we leave this at the default of 0.0 seconds meaning that objects will be detected as soon as the enter the scene.
Secondary ONVIF Profile M channel for use without video - this toggle lets you select whether the encoder sends the analytics data generated by the Object Detector as a secondary ONVIF Profile M channel. This allows the data to be consumed by a VMS without the need to reference a corresponding video stream.
This is for a specific use-case and the secondary channel does have a slight overhead, so the option is turned off by default.
Once you've made all the changes you need, click SAVE to store the changes made in the Options popup.
Now click APPLY to store the changes on the encoder, you will now see the object detection working on the video stream. Clicking the CLOSE button closes the Change Analytics section.
Once enabled you are ready to utilise the output from the OD. You can either:
