Introduction

Users can take advantage of the built-in support for EdgeVis within Genetec Security Center.

The following instructions are provided by Genetec and are reproduced verbatim from version 5.11.3.0 of the Security Center Video Unit Configuration Guide (registration required).

Configuring Digital Barriers units

12.1 | Notes about Digital Barriers driver

There are some additional steps required when using the Digital Barriers driver in Security Center.

The Digital Barriers driver uses EdgeVis technology to control the devices and acquire streams.

  • The Digital Barriers driver can be added using unit discovery.

  • Live Streaming is supported.

  • Video Edge Playback is supported.

  • You can monitor live and playback GPS events in Security Desk.

  • The driver interacts with the EdgeVis Server SDK and video retrieval in H264 and MJPEG is supported.

  • You can use GOP Download service to download edge archives from the EdgeVis Server SDK. Data retrieval is available for H264 only.

The Digital Barriers driver has the following limitations:

  • You can only stream one camera per EdgeVis encoder at a time.

  • Archive sequences are only updated when reconnecting a unit.

  • You cannot view live or edge playback for any camera connected to an encoder that has

  • Archiver recording configured. Live or edge playback can only be viewed for one camera under the same unit.

  • If a camera is added on an encoder after the encoder was added to Security Center, it is not visible in the system. You must reconnect the camera.

  • When adding an encoder, the stream resolution is always set to the maximum and cannot be changed.

  • Failover configurations are not supported for Digital Barriers.

12.2 | Discovering Digital Barriers units

Before adding Digital Barriers units, you must configure the connection parameters in Config Tool.

Procedure

  1. Open the Video task in Config Tool, and click Unit enrollment.

  2. In the Unit enrollment window, click the Settings and Manufacturers ( ) icon and select Digital Barriers.

  3. Click Configure manufacturer.

  4. In Service URI, enter the EdgeVis server address.

The default port is 9300. To specify another port, enter the address as follows: <ServerIP>:<ServerPort> or

    http://<ServerHostname>:<ServerPort>

  5. Enter the Username and Password, and then click Save.

  6. Click Start discovery.

  7. Click Add for each unit you want to add.

12.3 | Configuring archive transfer for Digital Barriers units

Before downloading video from Digital Barriers units using Security Center, you must first configure archive transfer.

Procedure

  1. Open the Video task in Config Tool, and select the Archiver that is managing the Digital Barriers unit.

  2. Click the Extensions tab, and select the Generic Plus extension.

  3. Set the Transaction timeout to 60 seconds.

  4. If you want the discovery to be performed every n minutes instead of every hour, do the following:

    1. At the bottom of the Extensions tab, click Advanced settings.

    2. In Advanced settings, click plus icon.

    3. In the Name column, type PollTransmission.

    4. In the Value column, type 60000.

    5. Click Close > Apply.

  5. Click the Resources tab, and click Advanced settings > Additional settings.

    1. In Additional settings, click .

    2. In the Name column, type MaximumUnitPlaybackTransferIdleBeforeDeleteInMs.

    3. In the Value column enter the time, in milliseconds, to wait for EdgeVis server to respond. For example, for 4 minutes, type

      240000.

    4. Click Close > Apply.

  6. Deactivate and reactivate the archiver role.

12.3.1 | Downloading recording

You can download video recordings for Digital Barriers units in Config Tool.

Procedure

  1. In the Video task in Config Tool, select the Archive Transfer tab.

  2. Click plus icon to add a new transfer group.

  3. In the Transfer group properties dialog box, click plus icon to select the camera you want to retrieve video from and click Save.

  4. Click play icon to start the transfer.

12.4 | Configuring serial PTZ for Digital Barriers units

To use PTZ controls for Digital Barriers units in Security Center, you must configure Serial Pass-Thru on the EdgeVis encoder and associate the serial port in Config Tool.

Before you begin

You must enroll the units in Config Tool.

Procedure

To configure Serial Pass-Thru on the unit:

  1. On the EdgeVis encoder, open the Settings.

  2. Ensure that PTZ is connected to the serial port.

  3. In PTZ settings, set the Protocol to None.

  4. Enable Serial Pass-Thru and set the following values. These values can change depending on the serial PTZ motor connected to

    the encoder. For example:

    1. Set Serial port to RS232.

    2. Set Baud rate to 9600.

To configure serial PTZ in Security Center:

  1. From the Video task in Config Tool, select the unit to configure.

  2. Click the Hardware tab and enable PTZ.

  3. Select the correct Protocol from the drop-down list. For example, Pelco D.

  4. Set the Serial port to the one associated with the unit.

  5. Set the PTZ address to 1. This value can change depending on the serial PTZ motor.

  6. Click Apply.
