What cameras can I use with my EdgeVis encoder?

This article explains what cameras are supported by an IP Series or EdgeVis Video Router

Updated over a week ago

Your IP Series or EdgeVis Video Router (EVVR) can use the following methods to connect a camera:

IP Camera supporting ONVIF Profile S

An IP camera that supports the ONVIF Profile S standard, including those from major brands such as Axis, Bosch, i-PRO. Your camera should be automatically discovered by your encoder and provide video/audio and PTZ (if supported by your camera).

There are varying levels of compliance with ONVIF between manufacturers. In some circumstances you may have to manually add your device, or revert to using the camera’s raw RTSP stream.

RTSP Stream

It is also possible to add an RTSP video stream to your encoder as long as you have the RTSP URL for your camera (e.g. rtps://10.1.1.10:554/video). This supports both video and audio - but not PTZ.

In all circumstances, the video feed from your camera must be:

  • encoded in H.264

  • with a resolution of 720p or 1080p

  • 25/30 fps or less.

For ONVIF devices the encoder will automatically ask for a compatible stream - in some circumstances you may have to configure your camera before adding the stream.
